Digital satellite base station for Milan
T-Systems offers digital satellite television in Southern EuropeT-Systems and the Italian satellite carrier Milano Teleport Italia (MTI) signed an agreement on installing a digital satellite base station in Milan. The contract covers the joint construction and operation of a so-called teleport for digital television via satellite. Both companies will be marketing the station and services for Digital Video Broadcasting – Satellite (DVB-S) to European television stations.
The T-Systems unit responsible for broadcasting systems and solutions, Media Broadcast, already operates two teleports in Germany for digital radio and television stations in Cologne and Usingen.
The third installation in Milan will enable T-Systems and MTI to respond to the growing demand for digital and satellite-based services. The new base station will be mostly transmitting digital channels for Italian television stations via the new Eutelsat satellite HotBird 6. In all of Europe, over 80 million households will be able to receive digital television.
